Döringsburg is a castle in Biedenkopf in the Hessian highlands, situated at about 315 meters in elevation. Only ruins remain today, showing the foundations and walls that date back to the Middle Ages.
The castle was first mentioned in 1365 and belonged to the von Döring family, who received a feudal land grant in Biedenkopf in 1430. The building burned down in 1635 and was never rebuilt.
The ruins reveal how noble families in this region lived and managed their properties. The site holds meaning for local people as part of their area's historical identity.
The site is reachable via hiking trails that also connect to other castles in the area. Good footwear is recommended since the terrain is hilly and sometimes overgrown.
The cause of the 1635 fire remains unclear, giving the site a mysterious quality. Despite the destruction, the remaining walls are stable enough to provide an impression of the former structure.
