Fabrik, Cultural center in Ottensen, Hamburg, Germany
Fabrik is a cultural center housed in a former machine parts factory with a large central hall supported by wooden beams and galleries on two upper levels. The industrial structure remains visible throughout, creating distinct spaces for various events and exhibitions.
The building dates from 1840 as a machine parts factory and was converted into a cultural center in 1971 under painter Horst Dietrich and architect Friedhelm Zeuner. This transformation made it a gathering place for artistic and musical activities in the city.
The center hosts exhibitions and performances that transform the former factory floor into a platform for artists and theater groups. You encounter a space where both emerging and established creators present their work throughout the year.
The venue spreads across multiple levels with different rooms to discover as you explore. The combination of the building's layout and the programming makes a visit worthwhile at any time.
International artists such as B.B. King, Miles Davis, and Nirvana performed here, establishing it as a notable venue in Europe's music scene. This legacy of musical creativity continues to draw artists and audiences today.
