Haus der Stadtgeschichte, City history museum in Heilbronn, Germany
The Haus der Stadtgeschichte is a museum in the Deutschhof complex displaying regional artifacts and historical documents across approximately 485 square meters of exhibition space. The collection includes objects and materials that illustrate the story of the city and its residents.
The museum opened in July 2012 after comprehensive renovation work funded by a donation from businessman Ottmar Rettenmaier. This investment made it possible to create new exhibition spaces and present the historical collections properly.
The museum displays a three-dimensional model of Heilbronn from 1800 and large-format photographs from the early 20th century, documenting how the city looked in those eras. These displays help visitors understand how streets and buildings transformed over time.
Admission is free, and volunteer guides are available to provide information about the collections to visitors. It is helpful to check beforehand if guided tours or special events are being offered.
Floor-embedded maps throughout the exhibition spaces illustrate how the city developed from medieval times to the present day. This unusual design lets visitors literally follow the city's transformation beneath their feet.
