Fleischhaus

The Fleischhaus is a two-story structure with ground-level arcades opening onto the street and a courtroom located on the upper floor in downtown Heilbronn. The lower section features an open arcade design typical of market halls, while the upper level displays a more solid facade that housed official business.

Construction of the building took place between 1598 and 1600, bringing together two important city functions under a single roof. This project reflected the era's approach to merging commercial and administrative needs in public architecture.

The building displays late 16th-century Mannerist features with its distinctive arcade structure and shows how commerce and civic functions shared the same space. This arrangement reveals how important both the market trade and official ceremonies were to daily city life.

The building sits on Kramstrasse in an easy-to-reach location with good visibility of the arcade structure from street level. Be prepared for limited interior access, as parts of the space may not be open to casual visitors depending on current events or functions.

From 1655 onward, fire safety rules required all wedding ceremonies in Heilbronn to take place only in this building. This unusual requirement transformed it into a gathering place for personal milestones and community memories.
