St. Stephan, Parish church in Gonsenheim, Germany.
St. Stephan is a Gothic Revival church in Gonsenheim featuring two towers that rise nearly 60 meters (197 ft) high. The building extends over approximately 62 meters (203 ft) in length and contains a spaciously proportioned interior hall.
The church was first mentioned in 1401 and underwent several reconstructions before receiving its current Gothic Revival form in 1906. That final major rebuilding shaped its appearance as it stands today.
The interior features modern stained glass windows that bring color and light into the space in unexpected ways. These artistic works shape the impression visitors receive when entering.
The building is located in Gonsenheim and is easy to spot from outside thanks to its two distinctive towers. Entry to the interior is generally possible since it functions as an active community center.
The building is among the largest country churches in the Rheinhessen region and impresses with its sheer scale. Many visitors do not realize that despite its size, it was originally founded in medieval times.
