Wildpark Mainz-Gonsenheim, Wildlife park in Gonsenheim district, Mainz, Germany.
Wildpark Mainz-Gonsenheim spreads across roughly 3 hectares of forested land and houses around 100 animals from about 20 species, including red deer, fallow deer, moulons, and wild boars. The layout allows visitors to encounter the animals up close throughout different zones.
The park was founded in the 1950s by hunters from the Gonsenheim district and started with just four species. In the 1970s, the city of Mainz expanded the collection significantly and transformed it into an established facility.
The park displays endangered domestic animal breeds such as Thuringian forest goats and German Sperber chickens. Visitors can observe these rare breeds up close and learn about what makes them special.
The park is open around the clock daily and offers free admission to all visitors. You can purchase specialized food from vending machines to feed the animals and enjoy an interactive experience.
The grounds include a bird rescue station that provides medical care and rehabilitation for injured wild birds from the region. This facility makes the park more than just a place to watch animals.
