Ortsschlump, Natural spring in Hildesheim, Germany.
Ortsschlump is a natural spring at the base of Galgenberg mountain in Hildesheim. The water travels several kilometers through different landscapes before flowing into the Innerste river.
During the Thirty Years War, the spring was dammed in 1625 to flood the Old Village as a defense strategy. The water continued to serve as an important supply source for the city until the early 21st century.
The spring played a central role in local life, providing drinking water to Hildesheim residents from 1883 to 2009 through a dedicated waterworks facility.
The spring is located at Galgenberg and is easily accessible from the surrounding area. The water has high mineral content, which shaped its historic use for the city's water supply.
In the 1980s, a water mixing facility was built to balance the water's exceptional hardness. This technical solution allowed the spring water to be added to the city's supply network despite its unique mineral composition.
