Schloss Oberurff, château allemand
Schloss Oberurff is a castle in Bad Zwesten built in 1877 in the neobargue style. The two-story building sits within a park-like setting complete with trees and maintained pathways.
The building was commissioned by Prince Philipp of Hanau-Hořovice, who acquired the estate after the local family line ended. Following Philipp's death the castle changed hands several times until it was purchased and converted into a school in 1953.
The castle carries the name Oberurff, referencing the historic location. Today the building and its grounds serve as an educational institution, transforming the place into a gathering point for young people.
The castle serves today as a school building and is not freely accessible to visitors. The surrounding park can be explored from outside and offers paths for walking in the quiet surroundings.
Prince Philipp of Hanau-Hořovice grew up in Prague before returning to Germany to have the castle built. His ties to Bohemia make the site's story something special within the regional landscape.
