Schloss Reckenberg, Medieval castle in Lichtenfels, Germany.
Schloss Reckenberg is a manor house featuring two round corner towers on its western facade and decorative gabled dormers. The building blends defensive architectural elements with the residential character of a baroque estate.
Schloss Reckenberg was built in 1671 by Major General Philipp Elmerhaus von Eppe, replacing an earlier water castle. The reconstruction preserved two medieval towers from the original structure.
The structure reflects the shift from military fortress to noble residence in Northern Hesse. The two surviving towers from earlier periods mark this transformation and shape its appearance today.
The castle sits along the second stage of the Kellerwald Trail between Oberorke and Herzhausen and remains private property. Visitors can view the exterior from the hiking route without access to the interior.
The building incorporates the original medieval cellar vaults from the earlier water fortress into its foundation. These underground chambers date from centuries before the baroque reconstruction of 1671.
