The rectangular stone building features a high tent roof, Renaissance architectural details, and stands within a landscaped park near the A17 motorway.
The estate originated in 1628 as a fief granted by the Evangelical Dompropst of Meißen, with the current structure built in 1657 for Alexander von Krahe.
The castle incorporates German Renaissance design elements, including a baroque grille gate and a hermitage structure within its 224-hectare grounds.
Located 6 kilometers from Dresden's center, the castle now functions as an agricultural science high school, continuing its educational purpose since the post-war period.
During renovations in 1858, architect Karl Moritz Haenel added two upper stories and transformed the structure according to German Renaissance principles.
