Bremen public library, Public library in Bremen, Germany
Bremen Public Library, also known as Stadtbibliothek Bremen, is a public library in central Bremen offering books, magazines, digital media, and workspaces for all age groups. The multi-story building contains dedicated sections for children, teenagers, and adults, along with computer stations and group study rooms.
The library was founded in 1902, making it one of the oldest public libraries in northern Germany. Over the decades it expanded its collection and gradually moved toward digital services alongside its printed materials.
The library is informally known as the 'Bib' among Bremen residents, and it shows in how relaxed and familiar the mood feels inside. The reading rooms attract all kinds of people, from school children doing homework to older visitors flipping through foreign newspapers.
The building is accessible to people with reduced mobility and offers free WiFi and computer workstations inside. Return boxes outside the entrance let you drop off borrowed items even when the library is closed.
The library holds newspapers from over 100 countries, which makes it one of the few places in northern Germany where you can read the current press from so many parts of the world. Readers between 13 and 23 can also join digital book clubs designed specifically for that age group.
