Vogelsang, District of Zehdenick, Germany
Vogelsang is a district located in the northeastern section of Zehdenick, situated within the Schorfheide natural landscape. The area sits at an elevation of approximately 52 meters and is connected by the federal road B109.
The settlement originated around 1725 from a farmstead that grew out of a maintenance post for the Great Wildlife Fence in Zehdenick Heath. This early establishment laid the foundation for the area today.
The name Vogelsang refers to a woodland region known for its songbirds, a designation documented since 1736. This reflects the natural surroundings where visitors can still observe diverse bird species today.
The federal road B109 runs through the area, connecting Zehdenick with Templin and surrounding communities. This main road provides clear orientation and good access for those exploring the region.
Between 1959 and 1960, the area housed a Soviet military base equipped with nuclear missiles pointed at Western European targets. This overlooked chapter reflects the region's role in Cold War tensions.
