Zehdenick

Zehdenick is an urban municipality spread across the Oberhavel region about 50 kilometers north of Berlin, encompassing numerous villages and settlements. The area runs along the Havel River and combines a town center with rural neighborhoods that retain historic character and traditional layouts.

The area began as a fishing settlement in the early 1200s and grew into a fortified town with a castle for defense. It gained city rights in 1281 and later became a major center for brick and pottery production that supplied the region.

The town carries meaning as a center of brick production and craftsmanship that shaped the region for generations. You can see this heritage in the local architecture and the way buildings throughout the area reflect traditional construction methods.

The area is best explored on foot or by bicycle, as the main town and surrounding villages are relatively close together. Spring through autumn offers the most comfortable conditions for wandering along the river and through the settlements.

The area officially carries the title 'Havel City' since 2013, honoring its deep connection to the river that defines the landscape. This designation reflects how water shaped both the geography and the way people have lived here for centuries.
