Marienthaler Schlösschen

Marienthaler Schlösschen is a two-story classical mansion with a symmetrical facade and three-axis central section, nestled between forest and parkland. The building displays typical early 19th-century features and sits on elevated grounds in the Marienthal district.

The building was constructed in 1833 as a residence for educators who developed innovative teaching approaches. It became the birthplace of a modern training center whose influence on school pedagogy extends to the present day.

The site served as a hub for women's education and early childhood development, which still reflects in its layout and room arrangement today. The spaces tell of a time when new teaching methods were first tested here.

The estate can be reached via a walking path from Bad Liebenstein through Altenstein Park, which passes through natural landscape. The route is accessible on foot or by bicycle and offers several viewpoints along the way.

This was the site where Friedrich Fröbel established the first training program for kindergarten teachers in 1840, a concept that spread worldwide. The institution pioneered professional early childhood education and is considered the birthplace of the modern kindergarten movement.
