Luisenthaler Wasserfall, Artificial waterfall in Altensteiner Park, Bad Liebenstein, Germany.
Luisenthaler Wasserfall is an artificial waterfall in Altensteiner Park near Bad Liebenstein that plunges roughly 10 meters into a forest pond. An Alpine-style building sits above it, framing the scene.
The waterfall was integrated into the landscape design of the park between 1782 and 1803 under Duke Georg I of Sachsen-Meiningen. This work formed part of a major garden renovation he commissioned.
The waterfall and its Swiss-style hut represent the German Romantic period's interest in creating naturalistic landscapes that replicate Alpine environments.
The site can be reached via several walking paths with varying difficulty levels that run through the forest and park. The nearest public transport stop is about 750 meters away.
A wooden bridge supported by chains was installed above the waterfall in 2009 to cross the water. This bridge links the falls to the nearby Teufelshöhle cave, a natural cave formation within the park.
