St. Raphael, Modern church building in Gatow, Germany.
St. Raphael was a church building in Gatow with a square floor plan and massive concrete supports that defined its walls. The interior was open in design, offering space for worshippers who gathered around the central area.
The building was consecrated in 1965 and served the local Catholic community for many decades. In 2005 it was deconsecrated and later demolished, with only a few elements relocated elsewhere.
The church was home to a local Catholic community that gathered here for worship and religious life. The space was shaped by an arrangement that brought believers close together during services.
The church no longer stands today, but its former site at Alt-Gatow 49a remains known. Visitors interested in the history of the area can explore the location and imagine how the building once occupied the space.
The seating arrangement around the altar was a first for Berlin, creating a different way for the community to experience worship together. A stained glass window from the building was later moved to St. Michael Church in Frankfurt, where it remains today.
