Mevlana Moschee

The Mevlana Moschee is a prayer house in Kassel-Oberzwehren with multiple levels and a 32.25-meter minaret. The building combines traditional Islamic architectural elements such as windows and domes with contemporary construction.

The prayer house opened on May 18, 2014, and marked a significant milestone for the Muslim community in Kassel. The new building was created to meet the growing need for a central place for Islamic worship in the region.

The mosque is named after the Persian Sufi mystic Mevlana Rumi and draws people from different backgrounds who come together for cultural events and gatherings. It serves as a community meeting place where lectures and discussions happen regularly.

The site offers separate prayer rooms for men and women and has capacity for around 500 visitors. The building has facilities for educational programs, events, and other community activities.

The minaret is the tallest Islamic structure in the region and shapes the Kassel skyline from many vantage points. The architecture blends Eastern tradition with Western building styles in a way that is uncommon in Germany.
