Hessische Landesfeuerwehrschule, Firefighting training center in Kassel, Germany
The Hessische Landesfeuerwehrschule is a state-run training facility for fire service personnel located in Kassel, Hesse. The campus includes practice buildings, fire simulation equipment, and classroom spaces designed for hands-on firefighting instruction.
The school was founded in 1936 as a provincial fire brigade school, first operating in Wiesbaden and then in Hersfeld. Over the following decades it grew into a modern state institution with a broader range of training programs.
The school brings together firefighters from across Hesse, mixing professional and volunteer crews in shared training exercises. Walking through the grounds, visitors notice the practical and hands-on nature of everything here, from the practice buildings to the outdoor drill areas.
Since the school is an active training facility, it is worth checking in advance which parts of the grounds are open to visitors. Outside of busy training periods, there tends to be more freedom to move around the campus.
The school runs a separate facility in Marburg-Cappel that focuses specifically on training future leaders for fire departments. This second site plays its own role in the Hessian fire service training system, though it is little known outside the field.
