Hessencourrier, Heritage railway association in Kassel, Germany.
Hessencourrier is a railway museum in Kassel that operates a collection of historic trains including four steam locomotives and several passenger cars from 1894 to 1956. The collection spans different periods of German railway history through its various vehicles.
The organization began in 1972 using two cars from a closed narrow gauge line between Kassel and Naumburg. Over the decades it grew by acquiring and rescuing threatened vehicles to become a substantial collection.
The association keeps alive the practical skills and routines that steam trains once required from their crews. Volunteers learn and practice the trades of earlier railway workers, making this knowledge visible to those who visit.
The railway is located at the former Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe Süd station, a short distance from Kassel Wilhelmshöhe main station. Ask about train schedules and opening times when you arrive, as these change with the seasons.
A passenger car from 1894 is the oldest vehicle in the collection and appears on the association's logo. This car represents the roots and original mission of the group to rescue historic railway equipment.
