Botanischer Garten Kassel

Botanischer Garten Kassel is a municipal garden within Park Schönfeld featuring distinct areas dedicated to roses, medicinal herbs, perennials, and a specialized greenhouse for cacti and succulents. The layout distributes these sections across the landscape, allowing visitors to move between different plant communities.

The garden was established in 1912 as a school garden near Schönfeld Palace and underwent major transformation in 1982. Restoration efforts began in 2002 and have continued to refresh and improve the site.

The garden hosts literature walks, theatrical performances, and art exhibitions throughout the year as the seasons change. Visitors experience the space as an active venue where cultural activities unfold against the backdrop of living plants.

The garden is located at Bosestraße 15 with daily access and extended summer opening hours until 7:30 PM. Spring and summer months offer the best conditions for visiting when plants are flowering and the greenhouses are most active.

The garden hosts plant exchange events twice yearly where visitors can donate spare plants and obtain new specimens to take home. Visitors also have access to expert mushroom identification services during these gatherings.
