Villa Lahusen, Factory owner residence in Delmenhorst, Germany
Villa Lahusen is a substantial brick residence standing next to the former Nordwolle textile factory complex in Delmenhorst. The building features distinctive masonry work and a generous architectural form that sets it apart from nearby structures.
The residence was built in 1886 for Christian Lahusen and grew substantially after 1888 under his son Carl's ownership as the family expanded. This growth reflected the economic rise of the Lahusen family, whose wealth came from the textile industry in the region.
The building represents the industrial heritage of Delmenhorst, reflecting the period when factory owners constructed residences near their manufacturing facilities.
The building now contains 14 separate residential units while retaining its protection as an architectural heritage monument. Visitors can view the structure from outside to appreciate its role in the area's industrial history.
The location was deliberately chosen on the western side of the factory grounds to take advantage of prevailing winds. This positioning shielded residents from industrial odors while keeping the family close enough to oversee their manufacturing operations.
