Alte Kämmerei, Former wool-combing building and canteen in Delmenhorst, Germany

The Alte Kämmerei is a one- and two-storey brick building with a Krüppelwalmdach (half-hipped roof) and a gable marked by a rosette, built in 1884 in the Neo-Romanesque style. It stands at Fabrikhof 9/10 in Delmenhorst and has housed a restaurant since 1996, known as El Mariachi since 2007.

Built in 1884 as a wool-combing works for the Nordwolle worsted-spinning company, the brick building was designed by Nordwolle's house architect Wilhelm Weyhe. Once the combing operation outgrew it, it was converted into a canteen for Nordwolle workers, whose number rose from 900 in 1887 to about 3,000 by 1911. From around 1983 the canteen housed a gallery and bistro; the dining hall was demolished around 1996, the remaining building was renovated and became the Alte Kämmerei restaurant, renovated again in 2007.

The name Alte Kämmerei comes from the building's original use as a wool-combing works (Kämmerei) for the Nordwolle, not from any municipal office. After the combing operation outgrew it, the building became the company canteen for Nordwolle workers. Since 2007 the premises have housed the restaurant El Mariachi.

The building is located in central Delmenhorst and is easily accessible on foot. Since it now operates as a restaurant, visitors should note that visiting hours are tied to the restaurant's operating times.

The dining hall annex was demolished around 1996, leaving only the front building that was renovated that same year and converted into the Jugendstil restaurant Alte Kämmerei. The name refers to wool combing (Kämmerei), not to a treasury.
