Alte Kämmerei

The Alte Kämmerei is a building with Neo-Romanesque features marked by a distinctive hipped roof and an ornate gable decorated with a large rosette window. The structure displays typical late 19th-century design elements in its facade and currently serves as a restaurant.

The building was constructed in 1884 as a dining hall for workers of Nordwolle, a major wool processing factory that made Delmenhorst an important industrial center. Following the decline of wool production, the building was repurposed and has housed a restaurant since 1996.

The name Alte Kämmerei refers to its past role as the city's treasury and administrative office. Today visitors can sense how this place bridges the town's governmental history with its current life as a restaurant.

The building is located in central Delmenhorst and is easily accessible on foot. Since it now operates as a restaurant, visitors should note that visiting hours are tied to the restaurant's operating times.

Wilhelm Weyhe, the chief architect of Nordwolle, designed this building as part of a comprehensive industrial complex for the factory. The structure reveals how 19th-century industrial companies built their own infrastructure for workers.
