US-Hauptquartier Berlin-Dahlem, Military headquarters in Dahlem, Berlin, Germany.
The US Headquarters Berlin-Dahlem is an administrative building on Clayallee featuring neoclassical design with monumental simplicity in its facades. The complex now houses residential development and part of the US Embassy consular operations, while another section functions as an art museum.
The building was constructed between 1936 and 1938 as a Luftwaffe regional command center for the Wehrmacht and became the US military governor's residence after 1945. This transformation marked the shift from German to American control in West Berlin.
The building served as a venue for state receptions where diplomats and military officials gathered for formal events. Its solid architecture reflected the authority and importance the site held throughout its decades of use.
The site is located in Dahlem and visible from outside, though parts of the grounds are not open to the public. Visitors can view the architecture from Clayallee and explore the art museum in the renovated section.
Since 2019, part of the complex houses Fluentum, a private museum dedicated to video art and digital installations. This demonstrates how historical sites can take on new artistic purposes while maintaining their architectural significance.
