Olfener Bild, Column shrine in Olfen, Germany.
The Olfener Bild is a sandstone column shrine located on a ridge east of Olfen, rising nearly 3 meters tall. The lower section features a stepped base, while the upper portion has a protective roof sheltering the interior space.
The monument dates from the early 16th century and was built in pre-reformation times as a rest stop for pilgrims traveling to the mother church in Guttersbach. This purpose reflects the importance of the route as a significant pilgrimage path in the region.
The monument features a stepped shaft in its lower section and includes a roofed area on the front section, which shows signs of damage.
The monument sits along the Nibelungensteig hiking trail and is marked with an information board from the Museum Street Odenwald-Bergstrasse. Visitors can locate it easily along this marked hiking route.
In 1838, a prisoner named Jean Baptist Rieger escaped during a rest stop at this location. This unusual 19th-century episode remains connected to the monument in local history.
