Affolderbach, Municipal district in Wald-Michelbach, Germany.
Affolderbach is a municipal district within Wald-Michelbach located in the Kreis Bergstraße region of southern Hesse. It covers approximately 8.25 square kilometers and sits at an elevation of about 354 meters.
The settlement first appeared in written records in 1353 when nobleman Bruno von St. Lenen sold his people of Affolderbach to Palatine Count Ruprecht I. By 1648, after the Thirty Years War, only four farms remained until settlers from Switzerland and France arrived to rebuild the community.
The name Affolderbach comes from the Middle High German word for apple tree, pointing to the agricultural traditions that shaped the area. This connection to fruit farming remains part of how locals understand their community's rural roots.
The area connects easily to Federal Highway 38 through neighboring Nieder-Kainsbach, making it accessible by car. Expect country roads typical of rural areas, with narrow lanes winding between fields and farmsteads.
The community was completely reshaped by Swiss and French settlers who arrived after the Thirty Years War to rebuild the area. This outside migration created an unusual blend of European traditions in what was otherwise a rural German village.
