Greve Municipality, Municipality in Region Zealand, Denmark.
Greve is a residential municipality located southwest of Copenhagen on Zealand's eastern coast, serving as a commuter town with strong urban connections. Two S-train stations provide direct access to the capital, making it an important transport hub for the region.
The municipality was created in 1970 through the merger of seven parishes, including Greve, Hundige, Karlslunde, and Tune. This administrative formation marked the beginning of its transformation from agricultural land into a major residential center.
The transformation from agricultural land to residential districts occurred when numerous Copenhagen residents relocated to Greve during the late 1960s and 1970s.
The area is easily accessible by train, with two S-train stations connecting directly to Copenhagen and surrounding neighborhoods. Shopping centers near these stations offer retail and dining options convenient for both commuters and visitors.
While Denmark underwent a major administrative restructuring in 2007, Greve uniquely maintained its original boundaries instead of merging with neighboring municipalities. This independence set it apart from most other communities during that national reorganization.
