Museumsbanen Maribo-Bandholm, Heritage railway line in Maribo, Denmark
Museumsbanen Maribo-Bandholm is a railway line stretching about 8 kilometers through the Danish countryside between Maribo and the port town of Bandholm. Trains run with restored steam locomotives and passenger cars from different decades.
The line opened in 1869 as Denmark's first private railway and originally transported agricultural goods from Maribo to Bandholm Harbor. It later became a passenger route before being preserved as a heritage railway.
The stations keep their original 19th-century design, and Bandholm Station is frequently chosen for film shoots because of its authentic period look. Walking through them shows you how travelers moved around in that era.
Plan your visit during Easter school break, summer months, or October holidays when trains run regularly, as service is seasonal. Tickets are available at both Maribo and Bandholm stations.
Denmark's oldest working steam locomotive, built in 1879, operates on this line regularly. Passenger cars date from different periods between 1869 and 1930, showing how rail travel changed over time.
