Charlottenlund Fort, Military fort in Gentofte Municipality, Denmark.
Charlottenlund Fort is a coastal fortification in Gentofte Municipality, north of Copenhagen, positioned along the strait between Denmark and Sweden. The site consists of earthen ramparts, former gun emplacements, and inner buildings grouped around a central courtyard.
Construction of the fort began in 1886 as part of a broader effort to secure the northern sea approach to Copenhagen. During the 20th century, the site gradually lost its military role and was opened to the public.
The fort grounds are now a beach park where people swim and spend time outdoors in summer. The open lawns and old ramparts are used freely by locals, giving the place a relaxed and informal character throughout the warmer months.
The fort is located north of Copenhagen and can be reached by car or public transit. Coming during daylight hours makes it easier to walk the ramparts, explore the grounds, and access the beach nearby.
A restaurant now occupies part of the old defensive ramparts, so diners eat in the very spot where guns were once positioned. The tables face the strait directly, offering a view that the soldiers who served here would have known well.
