Sandholm, Reception center in Allerød Municipality, Denmark
Sandholm is a reception center located in Allerød Municipality, housed in distinctive yellow buildings. The facility contains registration areas, accommodation units, and administrative offices designed to process asylum applications.
The original estate was constructed in 1749 by architect Lauritz de Thurah and served initially as a private residence. In 1989 it was transformed into Denmark's primary reception center for asylum seekers.
The center maintains an educational program where children between six and sixteen receive instruction in Danish, mathematics, English, and creative arts.
The center provides three types of living spaces: family rooms with private bathrooms, double rooms, and four-bed rooms with shared facilities. Visitors should be aware that the site operates year-round with regular opening times for certain areas.
The center integrates multiple services under one administration: asylum processing, police operations, and humanitarian support from the Danish Red Cross. This combination of services in a single location is unusual for such facilities.
