Ksar Melika, Ancient ksar in Ghardaia, Algeria
The stone fortification stands on an eastern hill overlooking Wadi M'zab valley, featuring traditional Mozabite defensive architecture and narrow streets.
Founded in 1355, Ksar Melika was the last established settlement among the five historical cities of M'zab Valley, built near Agherm Ouadai.
The inhabitants maintain traditional Mozabite customs, with women wearing white haiks and men practicing ancestral crafts in specialized workshops.
Guided tours through the ksar operate from October to April, when temperatures remain moderate and allow comfortable exploration of the fortress.
Green pottery production distinguishes this ksar, as local artisans continue to create distinctive ceramic pieces using traditional techniques.
