Djebel Issa, Mountain summit in Naama Province, Algeria
Djebel Issa is a mountain summit in the Ksour Range of the Saharan Atlas located in Naama Province, rising to around 2,236 meters. The peak has multiple flanks with varying slopes and offers views across surrounding plateaus and valleys from its top.
The region was settled early by Berber peoples who used the mountain range for shelter and refuge. The peak gained official protection as a national park in 2003 to preserve its natural landscapes and ecosystems.
The slopes have served as grazing land for herds and home to nomadic communities who move their animals to higher zones seasonally. People from the surrounding villages use the mountain's water sources and natural resources through routes developed over generations.
Several trails lead to the summit, ranging from easy to difficult, so assess your fitness and experience level carefully. Proper footwear, plenty of water, and a map or experienced guide are essential for a safe ascent.
The peak influences local weather patterns through its elevation and creates conditions for rare plant species found nowhere else in the region at that altitude. These special plants have adapted to thrive in the harsh mountain environment with its extreme conditions.
