El Bey Mosque

The mosque stands between Kerman Street and Didouche Mourad Street, with Ahmed Bey Palace to the west and Shushan Abdel-Baqi Square to the north.

Built during the reign of Hussain Kalyan between 1713 and 1736, the mosque was temporarily converted into Notre-Dame des Sept-Douleurs Catholic church in 1838.

The prayer hall contains thirty marble columns with circular bases, featuring a mihrab decorated with geometric patterns and bright colors.

The building includes two main entrances with stone steps connecting the exterior to the interior, providing access through modern and traditional doors.

An inscription about the construction remains preserved in Ahmed Bey Palace on a white marble plaque, detailing the history and founder Hussein Bey.
