Haabersti, Administrative subdistrict in Tallinn, Estonia
Haabersti is a subdistrict in western Tallinn with residential areas spreading around Lake Harku and opening toward Kopli Bay. The area combines residential blocks with green spaces and sits conveniently near the city center.
The name comes from the German word Habers and traces back to the Germanic roots of the area. An old tavern building from 1836 still stands today, showing the construction continuity from that period.
The subdistrict is home to people from different backgrounds, including Estonians, Russians, Ukrainians, and Belarusians, who shape daily life. This diversity shows itself in shops, restaurants, and gathering places where different languages and traditions are visible.
The subdistrict connects to downtown through several transport lines and offers essential services including the Rocca al Mare Shopping Center. Different bus stations allow easy movement within and beyond the area.
The subdistrict houses both the Škoda Ice Hall with two ice rinks and the Estonian Open Air Museum in one location. This combination brings together modern sports facilities with the preservation of historic buildings and traditions.
