Pelgurand

Pelgurand is a beach with sandy coves along the Baltic Sea coast in Tallinn. It extends through two different neighborhoods in the northern part of the city and offers access to shallow waters and broad shoreline areas.

The beach developed from undeveloped land with scattered gardens in the 1940s into a leisure destination. Over the following decades it grew into one of the city's favored swimming spots.

The beach serves as a summer gathering place where locals spend time with family and friends. You see people swimming, sunbathing, and sitting in casual groups, making it an important social hub for Tallinn residents.

The water is regularly tested for quality and is approved for swimming. The beach is easily accessible on foot and has shallow entry areas suitable for different age groups.

The beach sits between two very different residential quarters: older post-war housing in the north and typical prefabricated apartment buildings from the 1960s in the south. This architectural contrast reflects different phases of Tallinn's modern urban growth.
