Harjumägi, Public park in Vanalinn district, Tallinn, Estonia
Harjumägi is a park on elevated ground in Tallinn's old town with walking paths and grass areas beneath mature trees. The green space spreads across this hill, offering different routes through shaded surroundings and open areas for sitting.
The park originated from the conversion of Ingrian Bastion, a fortification built in the 1690s on this hilltop. Its transformation into a public green space took place between 1861 and 1862.
The park holds monuments that represent Estonian heritage and serves as a meeting place for local events and community gatherings. Walking through it, visitors can sense how important this space is to the neighborhood's identity.
The park is accessed through Mayer's Stairs, with several entry points from the central streets of the old town. Most visitors arrive by walking up from the main square or nearby side streets at a leisurely pace.
The park sits on one of Tallinn's highest points and provides views of medieval old town rooftops as well as modern city buildings. This elevated position made the location valuable originally for the military fortification.
