Viljandi Castle Park suspension bridge, Suspension bridge in Viljandi Castle Park, Estonia
The suspension bridge in Viljandi Castle Park is a steel structure spanning across the valley of the park grounds. It connects different areas and provides access to the medieval castle ruins situated on the opposite side.
The bridge was built in 1879 by the Riga company Felser & Co. and officially installed at its current location in 1931. It was a gift from Karl von Mensenkampf of Tarvastu Manor, who had it on his estate beforehand.
The bridge holds the status of an architectural monument since 1998, reflecting the importance of Estonian engineering heritage. It stands today as a witness to the technical skills of the early 20th century.
The bridge is open for crossing during the day and evening hours, connecting both sides of the park grounds. You can explore the structure and enjoy views of the castle grounds from various positions within the park.
The bridge was originally built on Tarvastu Manor estate and later relocated to its present location in the park. This relocation made it the first structure of its kind in Estonia to undergo such a transformation.
