Cairo Governorate, Administrative division in northeastern Egypt.

Cairo Governorate is an administrative region encompassing the capital city along with five satellite cities that extend across the eastern bank of the Nile River. The area includes industrial zones, commercial districts, and residential neighborhoods distributed across its 38 districts.

The governorate experienced administrative restructuring in 2008 when Helwan district separated to become independent, though it was reintegrated into the region in 2011. These changes reflected efforts to manage the rapidly expanding metropolitan area more effectively.

The governorate's districts each serve distinct purposes, from bustling commercial centers to residential neighborhoods where daily life unfolds across the sprawling metropolitan area. People navigate between these zones depending on work, shopping, or family needs.

The region is divided into districts with industrial zones near Torah and South Helwan, along with essential services spread throughout the area. Travelers should allow adequate time to move between different zones depending on their destination within this large metropolitan region.

Since 2012, international development initiatives have focused on improving informal residential areas within the region and upgrading living conditions for residents. These projects work to provide better infrastructure and services to underserved neighborhoods.
