Pyramid of Menkaure, Egyptian pyramid in Giza, Egypt

The Menkaure structure is the smallest of the three pyramids on the Giza plateau and measures roughly 65 meters in height with a rectangular base. The structure stands southwest of the other two major pyramids and is surrounded by three smaller companion pyramids believed to have been built for queens.

Construction began during the reign of Pharaoh Menkaure in the 26th century BCE as the last of the great pyramid projects of the Fourth Dynasty. Subsequent rulers continued work on the complex, including completion of the associated temples and structures.

The nearby mortuary temple holds reliefs and inscriptions showing how offerings were presented to the pharaoh. These carvings provide insight into the religious rituals that took place at this location over generations.

Access is through the main Giza plateau area, with visitors typically passing the two larger pyramids before reaching this southern structure. Paths around the site are mostly level, though sand and loose stones can make movement challenging in some spots.

The lower courses retain their original granite casing, while the upper portions are made of limestone, showing a clear contrast in appearance. This combination of materials makes the structure a rare example of the transition in building techniques of the time.
