Monastery of Saint Paul the Anchorite, Coptic Orthodox monastery in Eastern Desert, Egypt.
The monastery complex includes three churches, defensive walls, and ancient structures situated 155 kilometers southeast of Cairo at 353 meters elevation.
The monastery was established in the fourth century over the cave where Saint Paul the Anchorite lived in solitude for eighty years.
The monastery preserves important Coptic manuscripts, including the Divine Liturgy texts and commentaries by Saint John Chrysostom.
The monastery contains accommodations for pilgrims, multiple prayer halls, and natural water springs that supply the resident monks and visitors.
The underground church built into Saint Paul's original cave contains the saint's burial place and features traditional Coptic architectural elements.
