Auditorio de Tenerife, Concert hall in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain
Auditorio de Tenerife is a concert hall in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, built with a curved shell that rises above the harbor waterfront. The structure sits on a platform of dark stone and projects from one side like a folded wing.
Construction began in the late 1990s following a design by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The building was completed in September 2003 and transformed the former industrial zone along the harbor into a cultural area.
The venue houses the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and presents classical concerts, operas, dance performances, and theatrical productions throughout the year.
The larger hall seats around 1,800 people, while the smaller chamber room holds about 400. Both spaces host concerts, opera, and dance performances and sit inside the concrete shell.
The outer walls combine broken ceramic tiles with basalt cladding made from local volcanic rock. These materials give the white concrete dark accents and connect the modern building to the geological origins of the island.
