Christopher Columbus found shelter at the monastery in 1490 when the Catholic Monarchs initially declined his proposal to sail toward the Indies.
The monastery holds an alabaster statue of the Virgen de los Milagros from the 14th century, representing the religious devotion of the region.
The monastery opens Tuesday through Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM, offering guided visits and audio guides in six languages for 3.50 euros.
Prior Juan Perez, the monastery's leader and Queen Isabel's confessor, influenced the monarchs to support Columbus's expedition to the New World.
