Biblioteca Virtual Miguel de Cervantes, Open-access digital library of Spanish-language texts
Biblioteca Virtual Miguel de Cervantes is an online library based in Spain that makes texts in Spanish and other Iberian languages freely available on the web. The collection covers books, journals, manuscripts, and personal documents from writers across the Spanish-speaking world.
The project was launched in 1999 as a joint initiative between the University of Alcalá and the University of Alicante. Over the following years it grew steadily into one of the largest online collections of Hispanic literature.
The library takes its name from the author of Don Quijote and focuses entirely on Spanish and Latin American writing. Visitors browsing the collection can find authors from every Spanish-speaking country, which gives a sense of how broad and connected this literary world is.
Access is free at any time without needing to create an account or log in. You can search by author, title, or subject, and most texts can be downloaded in several formats directly from the search results.
The collection holds letters and handwritten notes from major authors that are not available in digital form on any other open platform. Some of this material was digitized specifically to prevent further physical deterioration of the originals.
