Playa de Getares

Playa de Getares is a beach in the Bay of Gibraltar stretching between two rocky points for roughly 1.5 kilometers. It measures around 40 meters wide and opens onto the waterway separating Spain from Africa.

The name comes from a Roman settlement called Caetaria that housed a fish salting factory. The area later became known as Cetares during medieval times.

The beach has restaurants and bars along its promenade where locals and visitors gather for meals year-round. These spots serve traditional Spanish coastal food and drinks in a relaxed waterfront setting.

The beach has designated swimming zones with lifeguards on duty and facilities for visitors with disabilities. Bus Line 8 provides convenient public transportation access to the area.

From the shoreline you can watch large container ships passing through the Strait of Gibraltar while vegetation-covered mountains form a dramatic backdrop. This location makes it an excellent vantage point for observing the region's busy shipping traffic.
