Palacio de Elsedo

Palacio de Elsedo is a manor house in Somarriba featuring interconnected buildings, an octagonal tower, and decorated archways that form its main structure. The facade displays heraldic shields and carefully designed entrances that define its architectural character.

Francisco de Hermosa commissioned architect Francisco Agüero to build this residence between 1710 and 1715 as a demonstration of regional nobility and power. The construction reflected the architectural ambitions of the local aristocracy during that period.

The palace houses a notable collection of Spanish contemporary art featuring works by Pablo Serrano, Joan Miró, and Pablo Picasso created from 1900 onward. These pieces reflect how Spanish artists shaped modern art during the last century.

The property opens daily from June through October with morning and afternoon visiting hours available throughout the week. Arriving early, especially on weekends, helps ensure a more comfortable experience without crowding.

The architecture blends multiple distinct styles including fluted columns, Gothic water spouts, and a two-arch entrance portal with an adjacent staircase. This mixture of different design elements creates an unusual and visually engaging composition worth examining closely.
