Basilica of Nuestra Señora de los Milagros, Ágreda

The Basilica of Nuestra Señora de los Milagros in Ágreda is a Renaissance church with three aisles divided by barrel arches and covered with star-shaped ribbed vaults. The building follows a Latin cross plan and displays the typical features of Spanish Renaissance architecture.

Construction of the basilica began in 1554 as part of an Augustinian monastery, sponsored by the Fuenmayor and Camargo families. The project was completed after more than 70 years in 1624, marking an important period of religious architecture in Castile.

The main church contains a 14th-century statue of the Virgin of Miracles, surrounded by two Gothic altarpieces from Aragonese and Castilian workshops. These works reflect the artistic exchange between different regional traditions during that period.

The church is located at Avenida de la Virgen de los Milagros 10 in Ágreda, in the province of Soria in Castile and León. It is easiest to reach on foot if you are already in the town center.

The Carmen Chapel features Renaissance stucco reliefs depicting scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary, crowned by a star-studded dome with two lantern-shaped windows. These decorative elements form a rare example of religious interior art from this period in the region.
