Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Linares, Religious sanctuary and watchtower in Sierra Morena, Spain.
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Linares combines a religious temple with a 9th-century Islamic watchtower, forming a cross-shaped architectural structure north of Córdoba.
King Fernando III established this sanctuary in 1236 after using the existing Muslim watchtower as a strategic position during the conquest of Córdoba.
The interior displays religious paintings from renowned artists Antonio del Castillo and Juan de Alfaro, along with multiple altars and a 1600s Virgin statue.
Located 6.2 kilometers from Córdoba, the sanctuary includes a church, pilgrim lodgings, and a caretaker residence connected to the ancient watchtower structure.
The sanctuary hosts an annual May pilgrimage where decorated carriages and horsemen parade from Córdoba to receive blessings at this historic site.
