Panteón de Galegos Ilustres

The Panteón de Galegos Ilustres occupies a section of the former Dominican church at San Domingos de Bonaval, displaying Gothic stonework with vaulted ceilings and ornate details. The space holds the tombs of notable Galician figures arranged in a solemn setting that reflects the building's religious past.

The convent was founded in the 13th century and underwent major renovations in the late 1600s under architect Domingo de Andrade. The pantheon was established later as a way to honor and preserve the memory of significant Galician figures.

The memorial honors leading Galician figures from different walks of life whose contributions shaped the region. Visitors find themselves in a space that feels like a quiet tribute to local heroes and thinkers.

Access to the pantheon is through the Museo do Pobo Galego, housed in the same complex. Plan your visit for morning or early afternoon hours when the museum is open and less crowded.

The building features a remarkable triple spiral staircase designed by architect Domingo de Andrade that connects different areas of the complex. Many visitors overlook this architectural gem despite it being one of the most interesting elements of the entire site.
