The Astronomical Viewpoint Sicasumbre is a stargazing site set on a hill in the south of Fuerteventura, in the municipality of Pájara. It features interactive panels about the solar system, telescope support stands, a sundial, and a scale model of the solar system.
Sicasumbre was the first astronomical viewpoint built on Fuerteventura specifically for stargazing. It was created in response to growing interest in astro-tourism across the Canary Islands and the need to protect dark sky areas from increasing development.
Sicasumbre is designated as a Starlight Reserve, which means light pollution is actively kept low in the area. Every April 20th, the island celebrates a night of stars, and many astronomy enthusiasts and professionals gather at this spot to share their interest in the sky.
The path to the viewpoint is well signposted, with a rest area and a wooden pergola halfway up. Warm clothing is a good idea, as temperatures can drop noticeably after sunset on the hill.
Along the path up to the viewpoint, there are goat sculptures by local artist Juan Miguel Cubas, which stand out as an unexpected detail in the bare landscape. From the top, both the Montaña Cardón natural monument and the Jandía park are visible at the same time, making this one of the few spots with such a wide view of the island.
