Tenhola hillfort, Iron Age hillfort in Hattula, Finland
The Tenhola hillfort stands on a sand dune, reaching 65 meters above the Vanajavesi lake with stone ramparts visible at its summit.
During the period between 500-1000 AD, the fortification served as a defensive structure, evidenced by archaeological findings including pottery fragments and iron slag.
The site contains remnants of ancient Finnish settlement patterns, with stone foundations and reconstructed wooden fences indicating military architectural methods.
Visitors can reach the archaeological site through Suontaantiet or Merventiet roads, with a designated campfire area located at the base.
Archaeological excavations at Tenhola revealed a medieval cannon ball, providing evidence of military activities during the Middle Ages in this region.
