Hattula, municipality in the region of Tavastia Proper in Finland
Hattula is a municipality in Tavastia Proper surrounded by several lakes and situated between Helsinki and Tampere. The area includes the village of Parola with its quiet streets and churches, Lepaa with its manor house and winery, and numerous parks, golf courses, and water sports facilities.
Hattula was established in 1868 and sits in a region with long human settlement, evidenced by the Gothic Church of the Holy Cross built in the 15th century. The Parola Railway Station is one of only four original stations remaining from Finland's first railway, marking the country's early transport history.
Hattula is known as the hometown of writer Jaakko Juteini, whose legacy lives on in the library and multi-purpose center finished in 2016 and named after him. This connection to literature shows how much the community values its local talents and intellectual heritage.
Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and allow time for walking around the various villages, as the area is spread out and green. The best time to visit is May to September, when outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, and water sports are fully available and gardens are blooming.
The frisbee golf course here is the largest of its kind in Finland, stretching over a wide area with many holes for players of all levels. This lesser-known sports facility draws people looking for a different kind of golfing experience in nature.
